Court orders OPTA to review termination rates
Thursday, 31 July 2008
An administrative court in the Netherlands has decided that OPTA should review its decision on the regulation of mobile termination charges of 30 July 2007. The court found that OPTA's decision was inadequately reasoned and, in particular, that there were flaws in the welfare analysis. Professor Maarten Janssen and Paul Reynolds of CEG Europe supported T-Mobile Netherlands in the appeal. CEG has extensive experience in advising on mobile termination regulation. Currently, CEG is advising on the current appeals of OFCOM's decision in the UK Competition Commission, on the development of a mobile bottom-up LRIC model for an Asia-Pacific operator and on the European Commission's draft Recommendation in relation to future regulation of termination charges.
